From Vermont and the famous Napa Valley, a new whisky sensation has emerged: WhistlePig 12 Single Barrel Rye Whiskey Aged in Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels. WhistlePig, known as the top independent craft whiskey brand specializing in Rye and innovative spirits, has collaborated with the esteemed Shafer Vineyards to produce this exceptional whiskey, characterized by its elegance, richness, and balance. The limited-release WhistlePig 12 Single Barrel Rye Whiskey – Shafer Edition begins with a robust 12-year-old Rye base, enhanced by a unique finish in Shafer’s 60-gallon French oak barrels that previously held 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine for 32 months.
Shafer Vineyards is celebrated for producing some of the world’s most highly acclaimed and age-worthy cabernets, frequently receiving scores of 98 or higher. The flavors imparted from the Shafer Cabernet barrels are anticipated to delight wine enthusiasts. Expect an aromatic profile featuring sweet apple, berry preserves, and cedar, complemented by a taste of sweet cherry and raspberry jelly, cinnamon, and a hint of citrus zest. A lingering finish of sweetness gradually transitions into a dry, structured cedar note.

To develop the Single Barrel Whiskey, Ireland collaborated with Elias Fernandez, a recipient of the 2002 Food and Wine “Winemaker of the Year” accolade and a 2024 nominee for Wine Enthusiast magazine’s “Winemaker of the Year.” Fernandez has dedicated over 40 years to Shafer.
