Afterwards, we proceeded to the exclusively accessible island of Majahuitas. Nestled against a stunning jungle backdrop and accompanied by music, this private beach club—just 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta—serves as a hidden treasure, offering cushioned sofas, chaise lounges, and hammocks swaying beneath palm trees.
A visit to Le Bistro, located along the Cuale River, provided an ambiance steeped in European charm, enriched by riverside views. Under a canopy of trees at a white-gloved table, I relished elevated modern Mexican dishes featuring the freshest local ingredients—think creamy white corn soup and duck enchiladas.
For those seeking adventure, Canopy River Park in the heart of the Sierra Madres promises an exhilarating playground. Options range from horseback riding and hiking to ziplining and all-terrain vehicles like ATVs. My choice? Embracing the excitement of an RZR adventure.
With protective gear donned, I felt prepared as we navigated scenic pathways, stopping at breathtaking vistas, including the impressive Jorullo Bridge—Mexico’s longest suspension bridge—standing 1,542 feet above, offering sprawling views of the valley gorge.
An authentic culinary delight awaited us at the end of our ride: pajarete, a traditional Mexican morning beverage made from freshly hand-milked cow’s milk combined with alcohol and flavors such as chocolate and cinnamon.
Lunch at Los Coapinoles in Canopy River Park highlighted native dishes, featuring handmade tortillas and birria tacos, while we enjoyed vibrant caballero entertainment.

The perfect conclusion to my adventures? Swimming with dolphins, courtesy of Wildlife Connection, an eco-tourism company founded by a biologist. Onboard, accredited guides shared insights about interacting with marine mammals, emphasizing the conditions required. During our experience with curious bottlenose dolphins, we were allowed to enter the water nearby, though direct swimming alongside them wasn’t permitted.
My stay at Velas Vallarta Hotel, a luxurious retreat just seven minutes from the airport, was delightful. Set amidst 10 lush acres in Marina Vallarta, this splendid eight-story hotel welcomed me with a plate of macaroons and chocolate-covered strawberries, culminating in stunning ocean vistas from my bougainvillea-adorned balcony.
