If you have a passion for Italian supercars, then Lamborghini is likely at the top of your list. The 1988 Lamborghini LM002, currently up for auction with RM Sotheby’s, is a rare find among Italian automobiles.
Only 328 LM002 models were produced from 1986 to 1993, making it a highly sought-after vehicle with an estimated price range of €225k-€275k.
This specific 1988 Lamborghini LM002 from RM Sotheby’s is one of the early models with a carburetor engine, representing a coveted piece for any classic car collection. Recently repainted in its original dark blue color in 2019, it retains its pristine appearance from the day it was manufactured.
Incredible Rarity and Performance
The presence of the Lamborghini LM002 at the 1986 Brussels Auto Show was unexpected yet impressive. Standing at six feet tall and weighing nearly three tons, this V-12-powered, four-wheel-drive beast challenged traditional norms in the automotive world.
Equipped with a modified Countach engine, the LM002 featured a tubular steel chassis coated with aluminum and fiberglass panels. The luxurious interior boasted full leather trim, air conditioning, and electric windows, showcasing Lamborghini’s attention to detail.
The vehicle’s five-speed ZF gearbox efficiently transferred its 444 bhp output to the road, and the option for both two- and four-wheel drive ensured versatility across various terrains.
Despite its size and weight, the LM002 delivered impressive performance, achieving 0-60 mph in under eight seconds and reaching a top speed of 118 mph. With an anticipated auction price of up to €250k, acquiring this vehicle from RM Sotheby’s would be a significant investment for any classic car enthusiast.
