The perfect blend of tradition and luxury: Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl in Obergurgl

    Booking.com

The tranquil village of Obergurgl is located in the majestic Ötztal Alps, surrounded by 21 snow-covered three-thousand-meter peaks. It is a paradise for ski enthusiasts, offering guaranteed snow from mid-November to the end of April, 112 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes, and 25 state-of-the-art ski lifts. The resort, known as the “Diamond of the Alps,” is not just a skiing destination, but also a stunning traditional Austrian mountain village with plenty of activities for a luxury holiday throughout the year.

Hotel The Edelweiss & Gurgl, the oldest hotel in Obergurgl, has a proud history and underwent a full renovation during the winter of 2020. The rooms and suites have been modernized and now exude an alpine freshness and coziness. We stayed in an Edelweiss Suite, which was spacious and perfect for our family of four. The suite had sliding doors that separated the living and bedroom areas, and the furnishings were of excellent quality. The dual balconies offered panoramic views of the snowy peaks.

The hotel also impressed us with little extra touches, such as chocolate treats and complimentary bottles of water upon arrival. The plush robes, slippers, and luxurious toiletries added to the comfort of our stay.

There are two restaurant options within the hotel: the multi-award winning À La Carte Restaurant and the glass-domed Fondue room. The À La Carte restaurant serves a menu based on seasonal and fresh ingredients, many of which are sourced locally. The elegant setting and attentive staff made our dining experience memorable. The four-course menu every night featured a variety of delicious dishes.

The hotel’s luxurious Glacier Spa, with its spa and beauty area, offered a peaceful haven to relax and unwind. The adults-only area had saunas, a steam room, and a whirlpool. The spa also offered a range of therapeutic treatments using the nourishing Kurland product range.

The hotel had two heated pools, one indoor and one outdoor, and my children particularly enjoyed swimming outside while enjoying the mountain views. The newly built E&G gym was equipped with state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, making it a great place to work out. The well-equipped Edelweiss Kids’ Club provided entertainment for children, including a magic show organized by the hotel.

Overall, our stay at Hotel The Edelweiss & Gurgl was delightful. The renovated rooms, excellent dining options, and luxurious spa facilities made it a perfect choice for a luxury holiday in the mountains.
