E.C.D. Automotive Design (E.C.D.), a renowned custom Land Rover and Defender specialist, has unveiled the world’s inaugural Electric Range Rover Classic (R.R.C.) equipped with a Tesla motor direct drivetrain. The transformation of the classic Range Rover began months ago through a collaboration with Electric Classic Cars (E.C.C.), the leading U.K. enterprise specializing in electric conversions of vintage cars, to acquire the Tesla motor. After an extensive 2,200-hour luxury design process, E.C.D. meticulously revamped the client’s Range Rover Classic, maintaining its original essence and aesthetics.
The meticulous reimagining took place at E.C.D.’s expansive 45,000 square foot “Rover Dome” facility. The refurbishment involved 12 bays staffed with 50 proficient technicians and master craftsmen. The enhancements ranged from modernizing electronic features like cutting-edge audio systems and in-dash navigation to cosmetic upgrades such as seat upholstery and refined exteriors. Additional luxury additions like drink cabinets were meticulously integrated. The Tesla motor configuration includes a 100-kWh battery pack enabling a range of approximately 220 miles on a five-hour charge, achieving 0-60 mph acceleration in an impressive 5.2 seconds.
Tom Humble, the founder of E.C.D. Automotive, expressed the significance of venturing into the electric vehicle market, stating, “As pioneers in the luxury custom automotive sector, it was imperative for us to diversify our offerings to include electric models. Following the successful completion of the Electric Range Rover Classic, we are committed to further innovation by electrifying Defenders and other Land Rovers. Our commitment to delivering top-notch customization is showcased through this new electric addition to our vehicle lineup.”
The Electric R.R.C. is elegantly finished in a lustrous Alpine White paint, creating a captivating visual contrast with the black grille and complementing the silver metal front and rear bumpers. The vehicle is equipped with 18″ Land Rover Boost 5 Spoke wheels and Continental Cross Contact Tires. The interior boasts classic design elements such as tan leather seating, dark wood finish on the dashboard, and custom vertical diamond stitching throughout. The E.C.D. electric range adheres to California vehicle regulations and is currently compliant across all 50 states.
