As residents of the Peak District, The Status Life team holds a deep appreciation for its remarkable beauty. We recently had the pleasure of visiting the area and staying at an exquisite property, Vernon House, which boasts an unbeatable location for exploring the best the Peaks has to offer. Situated between two of the region’s most popular towns, Bakewell and Matlock, and a short distance from the awe-inspiring Chatsworth House, Vernon House is the perfect base for immersing oneself in the local attractions.
Built in 1809, Vernon House in Rowsley exemplifies the elegance of Georgian architecture. Recently renovated in 2020, it has been transformed into a luxurious and idyllic retreat, ideal for a short stay in the Peak District this summer. For those unfamiliar with Rowsley, it is a charming village home to a highly acclaimed hotel and restaurant, The Peacock, just opposite Vernon House. Additionally, the nearby pub, The Grouse & Claret, offers another fantastic option for those who prefer to stay closer to home rather than venturing to Bakewell or Matlock.
Vernon House features four spacious bedrooms, with our personal favorite occupying the entire top floor and boasting an additional day bed and games room setup. The house comfortably accommodates 8-10 people, making it an excellent choice for group trips with friends or extended family. The cozy living room, complete with an oak fireplace and British Made sofas, can seat 8 individuals with ease. Moreover, the separate library/game room provides another large sofa and armchairs, as well as a card table, books, games, and a record player.
The kitchen at Vernon House is fully equipped for those who enjoy indulging in home cooking during their vacations. Guests will find an array of fashionable crockery and all the necessary electrical appliances, including a range oven, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine, toaster, and kettle.
If you desire to experience the grandeur of Georgian architecture in the heart of the Peak District, surrounded by stunning stately homes, breathtaking walks, and exceptional pubs and restaurants, booking a short break at Vernon House is an absolute must. We had a delightful stay at Vernon House and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a tranquil getaway amidst the splendors of the Peak District.
