During the past year and heading into 2021, the golfing world has seen various events either canceled, rescheduled, or moved due to the impact of COVID-19. It’s now thrilling to learn that the 2021 Korn Ferry Tour schedule has been officially released. The 2020 and 2021 seasons have been merged into one, with the top 25 players in points by the end of the 2021 regular season portion securing PGA Tour status. The combined schedule will include 23 tournaments to be held in 2021, with the season concluding at the Korn Ferry Tour Finals in August. In total, there will be 46 events during this one-time combined season.
Jay Monahan, PGA TOUR Commissioner, stated, “Korn Ferry Tour graduates have shown they are ready to compete against the best on the PGA TOUR from the beginning, as seen with our recent PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year recipients, Sungjae Im and Scottie Scheffler. With an extended 2020-21 schedule bridging two years, we are highly confident that the Korn Ferry Tour will once again produce an outstanding group of graduates for the PGA TOUR in the upcoming year.”
Due to the combined seasons and changes made over the past year, some major tournaments and championships have been adjusted, added, or removed. The WinCo Foods Portland Open, which traditionally marked the end of the regular season, will now be replaced by the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Nebraska. Two new events have been introduced to the schedule: the Emerald Coast Classic at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort’s Raven Golf Club from March 29-April 4 and the Paiute Las Vegas Championship at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort’s Sun Mountain Course from April 12-18. All international events have been canceled, and the schedule will be exclusively held in the U.S. this year.
Alex Baldwin, Korn Ferry Tour President, stated, “The season-long competition for the 25 PGA TOUR cards is the core of the Korn Ferry Tour, and we are excited to bring that incredible energy to the dedicated golf fans in Omaha.” He further added, “The Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna has been one of the premier events on our Tour for the past four years, and we are eager to continue that tradition in 2021 and beyond.”
