Taylor Fritz, a tennis champion with an impressive lineage, continues to make waves in the tennis world. He is the great-great-grandson of David May, founder of The May Department Stores, and his mother was a top-10 tennis player. His father, also a professional tennis player, was honored as the US Olympic Development Coach of the Year in 2016.
At 25 years old, Fritz has achieved a ranking of number 5 globally and number 1 in the United States. His ranking soared after a significant victory against Rafael Nadal at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells last year, where he claimed the prestigious ATP Tour Masters 1000 title. This event holds great importance as it is the largest combined ATP Tour Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tennis tournament in the world. Taking place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, owned by Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle and a passionate tennis enthusiast, this year’s event runs from March 6 to 19, 2023.
Fritz is returning to defend his title at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open, known as ‘Tennis Paradise.’ Collaborating with Maestro Dobel Tequila, he offers fans special meet-and-greet opportunities and presents the Tournament’s Official Cocktail, the Ace Paloma, named after his signature smooth serve.
Maestro Dobel selected Taylor Fritz as their partner due to his dedication, expertise, and mastery in tennis, mirroring the brand’s commitment to crafting exceptional tequila. Established by 11th generation tequila maker Juan Dobel, Maestro Dobel represents a modern take on tequila with a heritage spanning over 250 years. The brand is known for introducing innovative products to the market, including the first Cristalino tequila with Dobel Diamante, the first smoked tequila with Humito, and the first Pechuga tequila with Pavito.
Prior to his Ace Paloma creation, Fritz emphasized the importance of his serve in his game strategy for every tournament. He attributed his competitive spirit and approach to his success on the court.Being a local participant, Fritz appreciates the home crowd’s support and the confidence it gives him. He holds a special sentiment for this particular tournament, noting, “This tournament, more than all the others, is very special to me.” Mental and physical preparation are key aspects of his routine, and he aims to maintain a balanced mindset without overwhelming himself with pressure.
Reflecting on his upbringing in Rancho Santa Fe, Fritz fondly recalls attending matches at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden annually with his family and friends. Winning last year has made the tournament even more special for him, creating a sense of comfort and familiarity.
When asked about his pre-match focus, Fritz highlighted the importance of decompression time to prepare adequately. He follows a consistent routine, including specific meal choices, warm-ups, and practice sessions to maintain his performance standards.
During the tournament, fans can visit the Maestro Dobel bar and lounge near Stadium 2 to enjoy various activities, including table tennis, photo opportunities, and cocktails featuring Maestro Dobel’s premium tequilas.
