Porsche Design is revisiting its Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition by introducing the new Chronograph 1 All Black Numbered edition, which is an all-black titanium version of the iconic design. Limited to just 1,000 pieces, each watch will come with its unique number.
Following the success of the previous model that sold out quickly in early 2022, the new 40.8mm matte black titanium edition stays true to the original 1972 model in terms of size and style.
Porsche Design pays homage to its historic Chronograph 1, known as one of the first all-black watches ever made. The use of black PVD on steel and the innovative Valjoux 7750 automatic movement set a standard that has been followed by sports watchmakers worldwide. The original Porsche Design automatic chronograph from 1972 is highly sought after by collectors.
The Chronograph 1 All Black Numbered edition distinguishes itself from its predecessor with its individual numbering and a sapphire case back revealing the Porsche Design WERK 01.140 caliber with COSC certification and the Porsche Design Icon winding rotor.
Retaining similar specifications from the earlier model, the watch features a dial inspired by the Porsche 911 dashboard, a tachymeter, a day/date display in the Porsche font, and a minute hand designed by F. A. Porsche.
Crafted from high-performance titanium, both the 40.8mm case and bracelet ensure quality and durability. Enhanced visibility in low light conditions is achieved with the use of new SuperLuminova. Porsche Design Timepieces AG, the brand’s own manufacturing facility in Switzerland, meticulously produces all Porsche Design timepieces.
Presented on a black titanium detachable bracelet with minutely adjustable folding clasp, the Chronograph 1—1972 All Black Numbered Edition can be pre-ordered now and will be released later in 2022 via the Porsche Design website, Porsche Design stores, and selected watch retailers with a price tag of $10,500.
In addition, Porsche Design has also launched the Chronograph 911 Sport Classic, a retro-inspired timepiece tailored for owners of the Porsche 911 Sport Classic. Priced at 12,500 euros, this watch features a two-tone titanium and black case, a dial inspired by the Heritage Design tachometer, unique winding rotor design, and a variety of dial options for the first time.
