Richard Betts, known for creating Sombra Mezcal, Astral Tequila, and wine companies Betts & Scholl and Scarpetta, reimagines Añejo Cristalino tequila with a unique approach. This top-shelf spirit undergoes a distinctive aging process in French oak white wine barrels instead of traditional bourbon barrels.
Meet Tequila Komos, a handcrafted tequila that draws inspiration from European winemaking techniques. Following a meticulous purification process, the one-of-a-kind spirit is aged in amphorae, resulting in a crystal-clear, exceptionally smooth tequila with a delicate and light flavor profile.
Tequila Komos made its US debut last year, quickly selling out of its initial three batches from Jalisco, Mexico. The ultra-premium Añejo Cristalino boasts a complex blend of fruity and floral notes, showcasing hints of sugared pineapple, fresh agave, lime zest, as well as subtle vanilla and spice from the French oak white wine barrels.
The tequila culminates in a smooth finish driven by mineral notes, with a dry quality offset by the aging process’s gentle sweetness on the palate. Each luxurious bottle is handcrafted using clay, featuring influences from the Mediterranean region.
Explore Komos’ latest offerings just in time for fall – Tequila Komos Reposado Rosa, a rosé tequila, and an Extra Añejo aged for a minimum of three years.
