Once a glamorous travel destination during the Rat Pack era, Port Antonio in Jamaica continues to captivate as a secluded retreat for today’s recording stars. Nestled in the San San neighborhood, the enchanting Geejam Hotel offers top-notch privacy and tranquility, attracting celebrities like Björk and Harry Styles who have found inspiration and relaxation in its private recording studio and picturesque surroundings.

Known for its stunning beaches, including French Man’s Cove, Port Antonio, affectionately known as “Portie” by locals, holds a significant place in Jamaican tourism history. The town’s allure traces back to legendary figures like Errol Flynn, who helped put Port Antonio on the map as a premier destination. Jon Baker, co-founder of Geejam Hotel, has been instrumental in revitalizing Port Antonio over the past three decades since falling in love with the region. The iconic hotel has recently reopened with 12 new stylish Rumba Rooms, an infinity pool, a revamped Bushbar restaurant, and the renowned recording studio.

The Rumba Rooms, designed in a unique jungle-meets-chic style by Atelier Vidal, pay homage to Jamaican music legends like King Tubby and Peter Tosh. Contemporary art, vintage Jamaican tourism posters from the 1970s, and photography by Savannah Baker adorn the interiors, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Baker emphasized the hotel’s commitment to seclusion, privacy, and nature in the design of the Rumba Rooms, with their split-level layout, high ceilings, and expansive French windows offering stunning views of the ocean and lush rainforest. The reopening also includes the refurbished Bushbar, serving up local favorites with a modern twist, and the upcoming beach bar and grill, Bentley’s Yaad, promising authentic Jamaican cuisine at affordable prices.

Geejam Hotel is set to entertain guests with live music events on its new venue stage, showcasing both local talents and international acts. The famous Geejam Studios, which has attracted artists for over two decades, is undergoing a renovation and will resume operations later this year. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Baker expressed optimism about Geejam’s future, citing strong support from local and international guests and the implementation of rigorous health and safety measures.

Among the notable additions to the hotel is an infinity pool and a partnership with Jacana, a Jamaican medical cannabis company, offering CBD products and spa treatments to enhance guests’ experience. With a promising outlook for 2021, Geejam Hotel looks forward to welcoming visitors with its signature blend of luxury, music, and natural beauty.
