Here Is Something Which You Should Not Miss At Mini-Modernism Week

    # Mini-Modernism Week Highlights

This week kicks off a four-day “mini-Modernism Week” featuring over 50 events, such as tours, talks, and parties in unique, normally closed locations to the public. The Palm Springs Modernism Fall Show is also part of the lineup, with an opening night preview party on October 14. The event includes a cocktail reception, live music, and an exclusive opportunity to shop the show before it opens to the public. Here are three standout events from the schedule, along with a new museum and art event to look forward to in Greater Palm Springs in 2023.

    ## Catch the Wave Tiki Cocktail Party
Begin Modernism Week at the Catch the Wave Cocktail Party at the historic Miles C. Bates “Wave” House on October 13. Designed in 1954 by architect Walter S. White, this house became a social and artistic hub in the Coachella Valley. The restoration of this house, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, was awarded in 2020. The event features cocktails, appetizers, an architecture talk, music by The Joslyn Strummers ukulele band, and DJ Modgirl. The attire is tropical or beach, and valet parking is complimentary. Venue: 73697 Santa Rosa Way, Palm Desert.

    ## House of Tomorrow Home Tour
Get a first look inside the newly renovated Alexander Estate in the House of Tomorrow Home Tour. This iconic home, designed in 1960 by architect William Krisel, is located in the historic Vista Las Palmas neighborhood. Known as the “House of Tomorrow,” this property was featured in Look magazine in 1962 for its futuristic design. The home is also famous as the “Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway” after Elvis and Priscilla Presley honeymooned there in 1967. Tickets for the twilight tour and cocktail reception are priced at $125 per person on October 13, 14, and 16 at 4:30 p.m.

    ## Tracy Turco’s Modernism Museum
Artist and designer Tracy Turco will open the Modernism Museum on October 15, focusing on mid-century modern design from the late 1950s to the early ‘70s. The museum aims to be a community space celebrating modernist living, with Instagram-worthy photo displays and various themed vignettes from the era, including a 1950s beauty salon and a 1960s living room. The museum will also feature a pink heart-shaped bathtub reminiscent of Jayne Mansfield. Location: 380 N. Palm Canyon.

    ## The Lautner Compound Tour
Explore architect John Lautner’s residential fourplex on October 15 at The Lautner Compound Tour. Built in 1947, this property has been restored and reintroduced as The Lautner Compound, featuring boutique properties like The Lautner, The Park, and The Ranch House. Lautner’s homes are known for their dramatic geometry and have been featured in Hollywood films like Diamonds Are Forever, Pulp Fiction, and A Single Man.

    ## Desert X 2023
Desert X 2023 Coachella Valley will run from March 4 to May 7, 2023, offering a site-specific international art exhibition. Desert X has drawn over 1.25 million visitors to its previous exhibitions in the Coachella Valley and received global acclaim. Previous artworks by various artists can still be viewed in the meantime.

    ## Save the Date: Modernism Week 2023
Modernism Week in 2023 will be an 11-day festival featuring over 350 events, including the Palm Springs Modernism Show, CAMP, iconic home tours, and the Signature Home Tour.
