Luxardo, a renowned Italian liqueur and cherry producer, has entered the canned cocktail market. Established in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo, the company remains in the hands of the founding family.
To introduce these cocktails in the US, Matteo Luxardo, the export director and a 7th generation family member, teamed up with Lindsay Kinder from FOOD LA LA, a cooking club focused on making cooking enjoyable and approachable. Their collaboration resulted in a picnic box featuring FOOD LA LA products, three new Luxardo canned cocktails, and recipe cards for antipasto skewers, fig olive tapenade, and chocolate espresso-dipped candied oranges to pair with the cocktails.
The Apertivo Spritz by Luxardo offers a refreshingly sweet taste with a hint of bitter orange, ideal for a picnic starter or alongside the Sorprese Dolci creation suggested by Kinder. The Sorprese Dolci required melted dark chocolate, espresso powder mix, candied orange wheels, and FOOD LA LA seasoning, combined for a delightful treat.
The Luxardo Bitter Bianco Spritz introduces a lighter twist on the classic cocktail with Bitter Bianco sparkling water, grapefruit zest, and a slightly bitter finish. It pairs well with antipasto skewers comprising olives, artichoke hearts, prosciutto, clementine segments, and smoked gouda threaded onto bamboo skewers and drizzled with artichoke brine.
For the Fig & Olive Tapenade recipe, dried figs, various olives, fresh rosemary, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar were combined to create a delicious spread for crackers to enjoy with Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin & Tonic. This Italian-style cocktail boasts vibrant cherry and juniper flavors with a sweet finish.
