The 1950s showcased exceptional design, especially in the automotive industry. A prime example of this era is the beautiful 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster up for auction at RM Sotheby’s. This particular vehicle is the last fully restored 300 SL by Rudi & Company, exuding top-notch quality that has captured the interest of many enthusiasts.
Retaining its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and body, the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster boasts an authentic feel that distinguishes it from others. Priced at $1.9 million, this luxury vehicle appeals to serious car collectors. Finished in Silver Grey Metallic with a Red leather interior, it radiates a timeless and sophisticated charm admired by The Status Life.
Although the 300 SL Roadster was built to US standards, records suggest it was first delivered to Germany before reaching North America. Its history dates back to the 1950s when it was acquired by an American military lieutenant stationed in Germany.
Tasked with the restoration was Rudi Koniczek from Rudi & Company in Victoria, BC, a renowned specialist in 300 SL models. The car underwent a thorough restoration process, including being stripped down to bare metal and receiving new rubber components, European headlights, taillight lenses, and glass. The original trim was re-chromed to achieve a flawless finish.
After being repainted in its original colors, the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster underwent a 300-mile test drive before undergoing final servicing to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, it comes equipped with a Becker Mexico radio, tool roll, tire iron and jack, soft-top head guards, and fitted luggage trimmed in 1079 red leather by Taris Charysyn & Co.
