The 1980s were an exceptional era in our view here at The Status Life, and to showcase this, we bring you the stunning 1981 Ferrari 512 BBi up for auction at RM Sotheby’s. This particular model is one of only 1,007 units of the 512 BBi produced between 1981 and 1984 and remains in remarkable condition despite being over four decades old. Presented in the captivating color combination of Rosso Corsa with cream and red leather interior, this offering from RM Sotheby’s exudes an irresistible old-school charm.

Boasting a mileage of just 25,964 kilometers, this magnificent 1981 Ferrari 512 BBi from RM Sotheby’s still has plenty of life left in it. Here at The Status Life, we have always had a soft spot for Ferraris, and it’s easy to see why when they exude the kind of coolness embodied by this model. This beauty is set to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s London auction after receiving servicing by Ferrari specialist, H.R. Owen, in February 2022, at a cost exceeding £4,000.

This exceptional vehicle is a rare and highly coveted early model from the initial year of BBi production. Delivered in January 1982 through the renowned German Ferrari agent, Auto Becker of Düsseldorf, it was naturally configured in left-hand drive and finished in the iconic Ferrari color scheme of Rosso Corsa with Black leather interior. Notably, the car was customized with body-colored induction intakes and spoilers, giving it a unique and enduring appeal.

Enthusiasts of classic cars would argue that in recent years, there has been a newfound and well-deserved admiration for BB-series Ferraris. Their race-bred technical specifications, iconic Pininfarina design, exceptional performance, and pioneering status as the first mid-engined “modern era” road-going Ferraris all contribute to their enduring popularity. As we approach the fifty-year mark since the launch of the 365 GT4 BB at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, there couldn’t be a better time or a more exciting opportunity to step into BB-series ownership with a relatively modest investment.
