Truth be told, we probably didn’t think we’d feature many Volvos on the pages of The Status Life but some cars are just too cool to be ignored and so it has proven with this superb-looking, retro-tastic 1958 Volvo PV544 Sport that is going under the hammer with RM Sotheby’s as part of their Open Roads auction. This old-school cool classic is finished in Olive Green with a red over grey, vinyl and fabric interior that gives it the sort of vintage vibe that, let’s face it, it’s impossible not to fall in love with.
The 1958 Volvo PV544 Sport from RM Sotheby’s has a guide price of just €28-32k so it’s not going to completely break the bank for whichever classic car enthusiast that is lucky enough to get their hands on this classically cool vehicle when the hammer goes down on the bidding. It is powered by a 1.6-litre inline-four engine, mated to a four-speed manual gearbox and it features seating for five, heater, sun visors, door mirrors, Blaupunkt radio, Pioneer front speakers, twin Marchal spot lamps, and a spare wheel with a new tyre and a jack.
FULLY DOCUMENTED PURCHASE
If you’re the lucky one that scores this 1958 Volvo PV544 Sport from RM Sotheby’s you’ll be pleased to hear that the lot comes with the original purchase order, invoice, registration, and owner’s manual so you’ll have all the documents to make it more of an authentic collector’s item. This impressive-looking machine passed TÜV inspection and was classified as an ‘Oldtimer’ on 8 September 2021 without faults or remarks so it is in remarkably good condition given that it’s well over half a century old now.
Introduced as the update for the Volvo PV444, the PV544 boasted a few styling and mechanical tweaks to help set it apart from its predecessor. The windscreen was crafted from one piece of curved glass to give it an impactful aesthetic that was quite contemporary for its time. Volvo widened the rear bench and narrowed the front seat backrests, allowing the rear bench to accommodate three individuals. A new ‘Sport’ model featured twin SU carburetors and the transmission was a four-speed manual.
This Volvo PV544 Sport represents an unbeatable opportunity to acquire what appears to be an extremely presentable motor vehicle and one that is positively overflowing with old-school cool – which will make it a stand-out piece in any collector’s lineup. Offered with this example; is the original purchase order, invoice, Swedish registration document, and owner’s manual. This PV544 Sport has remained under the current ownership for eight years, having completed a nut-and-bolt restoration where the car was stripped down to its shell, with all corrosion attended to, before being refinished in the factory-correct Olive Green for a vintage vibe we’re loving at The Status Life.
