It’s a common saying that they “don’t make them like they used to,” especially when it comes to cars from the 50s and 60s. The aesthetics of vehicles from that era are truly exceptional. A prime example of this timeless beauty is the 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible currently available at RM Sotheby’s, a car that wouldn’t be out of place with James Bond at the wheel.
This rare 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible from RM Sotheby’s was originally a show car for the Salón Internacional del Automóvil de Barcelona. It is one of just 39 DB5 Convertibles made in left-hand drive. After a meticulous restoration at Aston Martin Works Ltd, the car now features a matching-numbers chassis and engine. Painted in California Sage with Red Connolly leather interior, it also comes with a rare matching factory hard top.
The chassis of this elegant vehicle was meticulously restored, with special attention to detail such as red oxide paint applied to the footwells. The interior received a full makeover, including re-trimmed seats in Red Connolly hide, new carpets, and headlining. The original straight-six engine underwent a complete rebuild with modern upgrades like hardened valve seats, silicone hoses, and improved Weber carburetors.
This Aston Martin DB5 Convertible, with its rare history and meticulously crafted restoration by Aston Martin Works Ltd, stands out as a top-tier example. Painted in the distinctive California Sage color, this sophisticated DB5 Convertible is truly a masterpiece that deserves a prime spot in any luxury car collection.
