Rarely do guests get the chance to enjoy a private elevator leading to their hotel room, but that’s just one of the exclusive perks at Les Suites At The Cliff Bay in Madeira. Situated atop a natural promontory near Pirates Bay, this luxury hotel offers awe-inspiring views of the Atlantic Ocean. Refurbished three years ago and belonging to the prestigious PortoBay Hotels & Resorts group, this 5-star retreat comprises 200 rooms with various spectacular views and lavish amenities. Just a short 15-minute stroll from Funchal, the island’s capital, it’s a perfect haven for sophisticated travelers.
Our duplex, number 63, spanning two floors, was tastefully adorned with natural elements such as polished wood and wool, complemented by art deco accents. The cozy living room featured a comfy couch, armchairs, a TV with 120+ channels, and a collection of books in different languages. Two balconies provided sweeping vistas of the verdant surroundings and the ocean. The bathroom, adorned with marbled tiles, boasted premium Bulgari toiletries, while the oversized bed promised restful nights.
Dining at Avista restaurant, renowned for its sweeping views of Funchal bay, was a culinary extravaganza. We savored a variety of dishes masterfully prepared by the talented chef and sampled cocktails from an extensive beverage menu. The hospitable staff, including our dedicated server Danusia Inty and restaurant manager Kyrylo Vasylyev, ensured our dining experience was exceptional.
The property features an array of dining venues, sports facilities, and recreational options, including numerous swimming pools, a tennis court, and fully-equipped gyms. We indulged in a couples’ pampering session at the spa, relishing a lavish bath, full-body massage, and breathtaking views of the cliffs and cityscape.
My favorite retreat was the Infinity Pool Bar, where I basked in magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and Funchal. A brief walk led to the Museum of Modern Art of Madeira (MAMMA), a vibrant cultural hub showcasing diverse art and hosting musical performances.
Our stay at Les Suites At The Cliff Bay was truly unforgettable, thanks to the sumptuous accommodations, exceptional dining offerings, and mesmerizing vistas. Madeira awaits as a heavenly destination to be explored.
