Just when you think you’ve seen everything a car manufacturer has to offer, one of their classic creations crosses your path and blows your mind. Well, that’s precisely the situation we currently find ourselves in here at The Status Life, having stumbled across this stunning 1980 BMW M1, which is up for sale with RM Sotheby’s.

The 1980 BMW M1 from RM Sotheby’s is available from their Amelia Island auction, and it is a spectacular example of BMW’s seminal mid-engined supercar. It has had single-family ownership from 1980 to 2019 and is one of just 399 road cars of this majestic machine ever built. It has undergone a comprehensive restoration process, including restoring the exhaust system, refinishing the wheels, adding new tires, an extensive engine tune-up, resealing the engine, installing new coolant hoses, an air conditioning service, and a change of all fluids.

Additionally, the exterior and interior were treated to a Concours-level detail. A mere 455 M1s were produced between 1978 and 1981, consisting of 399 road and 56 race cars. Hardly any were imported into the United States. As such, they remain somewhat elusive on American shores – something which increases the desire held for them in the hearts of BMW enthusiasts out there. Like what you see? Head over to RM Sotheby’s now.
